Hello my name is Antony Cox, I am a web developer and graphic designer based in London, England. Welcome to my 'Living CV'. This web site is a technical exercise to demonstrate my practical skills in the field of web development and visual communication. It is also a vehicle to deliver information about me and the projects in which I am involved. I hope the experience is somewhat more enjoyable than reading through a regular CV. Wherever possible I will explain the individual elements of the site, how they work and which tools have been used to create them. Also, I will provide the full source code for every page on request.
This project - with the exception of the image files - has been lovingly hand-coded in its entirety and uses only free open-source developer tools. The images were created from scratch with the fantastic open-source programs GIMP and Blender. The technology I have chosen encompasses all the major development languages including (X)HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML, PHP and MySQL. You may also find some cheeky AJAX functionality if you look really hard.
What the hell is mediocrazy? Mediocrazy is a made-up word. It can be interesting to combine words to create plausible new ones, ones that sound like they should already exist. Mediocrazy is a compound contradictory word made from mediocrity and crazy. The description of both words can be said to clash with one another, but because they both exist it sounds reasonable to the ear anyway. The contradictory nature makes a boring concept immediately new and more exciting. This is a concept already familiar to advertising agencies, and one used to great effect in the novel Anathem by Neal Stephenson. View the Wikipedia entry if you want to find out more.
The top of this page shows the beginning of a PHP / MySQL based member system I have been working on. Currently you can register, login, logout and confirm your email address from a link sent to your inbox. Users are prevented from circumnavigating the authentication system using session cookies and PHP scripts. I will soon (hopefully) introduce a 'remember me' function using the same session data and an option to change or recover your password. Any advice on that subject gladly received :).
The links below can take you to the relevant W3C validator tool so you can ensure the code has been written to the correct standard. If you do find an error then please do email me with the link so I can get it fixed.
For now, why not register or login if you haven't already and take a look through the rest of the site.
